SLOWLY

In June 2020, my friend Carter Shimp and I were at our friend’s recording studio. Carter was recording to a track that was recently made & was making good time on the verses. As the song continued to get built out, we realized this was a special track & that we should do something fun with it as a result. So, we decided to grab my camera gear and in the spur of the moment go shoot a music video for it. We quickly bounced ideas off one another and landed on an incredible concept.

The song was called Slowly and it was about taking your time in life, slowing down, and making sure not to get too ahead of yourself. It was also about love. Something we wanted to do when we came up with the video concept was keep it extremely broad so that people could interpret it in different ways. Somehow we managed to come up with a concept of Carter in a pond, leaving that pond, running from that pond, and then falling, failing, and returning to that pond. We wanted that pond to represent something different for everyone.

The idea was to show Carter running from something, running from toxicity, and then returning back to it because it was where he felt most comfortable. The concept of showing how hard it can be to leave your comfort zone was the goal. Not taking your time and not being patient will lead your to getting ahead of yourself, often times failing, and returning back to that zone of comfort.

We created this song, shot the video / photos, and edited the entire video within 24 hours. Probably one of the most fun projects we have worked on together & executed.
